Adoption Services
Spectrum believes every child made legally free for adoption deserves achievement of a permanency plan in a timely manner; and we are committed to providing quality services to achieve this goal and to assist the child and family post-adoptively.
Established in 1986, Adoption Services specializes in providing adoption services to children of various ages, race, and ethnic backgrounds, who have been victimized by neglect, abuse, abandonment and or other losses and traumas. These children are from ages birth to age 18 and are permanent wards under Spectrum’s supervision, or have been referred by the state of Michigan or another private agency. Adoption Services are available in Wayne, Oakland, Macomb and Washtenaw counties.
Spectrum’s goal is to provide permanency for children in a timely manner. The children currently reside in foster homes, group homes, shelters, with relative/kinship or in residential placements. A large percentage of the children are over the age of five.
Adoption Services offers a variety of pre and post services for the adoptive child and family including training and orientation for all potential adoptive parents and families. In addition, other services include social work assistance, legal documentation/court assistance, medical subsidy exploration, and linkage to social and community resources. These services are available to foster and non-foster families wishing to adopt.

Foster Care
At Spectrum Child & Family Services, we supply foster parents with the resources and support they need to provide a typical, enjoyable childhood experience for the children in their care.
The goal of Foster Care is to provide temporary placement, while searching for a permanent home for each child either with a biological family member or through adoption. We specialize in providing safe and loving temporary homes for children that have either been removed from their homes due to neglect and/or abuse, or are permanent wards of the court.
Children from birth to age 18 come to this program, following a referral from Wayne, Oakland or Macomb counties’ Child Protective Services. These children are temporary or permanent court wards with a history of abuse, neglect, or dependency. Some children may have special needs.

Here are a few important questions to ask yourself as you consider whether to become a foster parent:
- Can my family and I adapt to the changes a foster child will make in our lives?
- Is the rest of my family as committed as I am to serving the needs of a foster child?
- Am I patient and understanding of children’s needs?
- Can I accept and deal with the many different people and agencies a foster parent must work with?
- Can I be accepting of the child’s family and work with that family to create a positive atmosphere for the child?
- Can I accept that my home may not be a “forever” home for a child?
- Can I be devoted to working with a child that has varying behaviors, i.e. swearing, school issues, therapy needs, etc.?
