What we do

Spectrum Human Services, Inc. & Affiliated Companies is a child welfare and mental health human services organization. We provide services daily to over 1,500 mental, physical, emotional and/or behavioral challenged children, youth, teens and adults.

Clients in our care have been exposed to many hardships. Most of the children and youth are from low-income families; many have been subjected to abuse or neglect or have been in trouble with the law. Additionally, we specialize in providing care for individuals with physical, developmental and mental disabilities.

Spectrum’s co-founders believed that developmentally disabled children could be better served outside of institutions. In 1976 we opened the doors to our first home, Quincy home, a 12-bed home located in Detroit.

Today, Spectrum is recognized as one of Michigan’s
premier human service organizations. We currently operate one Mental Health and Consultation Services, three affiliated companies which include one comprehensive child care center, two short-term male detention centers, 32 licensed group homes and 22 assisted living apartments and community living settings.

Our comprehensive services include: foster care, adoption, in-home care, child care, independent living programs, family preservation programs, programs for adjudicated (in trouble with the law) youth, group homes for sexually abused young women, and group homes for developmentally disabled adults.

Spectrum believes that those in our care deserve a second chance. Our goal is to provide a range of innovative and superior programs that offer opportunities to enrich the lives and capabilities of individuals and families we serve.
